This is a great move strategically to make members part of IV. With this, there is no need for IV to constantly campaingn for funds with regular active members. IV's energy towards campaign could be targeted towards the new members and other non monthly contributors.
I appreciate all the members who have volunteered to contribute on monthly basis. It is just a matter of spending on one lunch / one bar outing or for a movie.
Still let us keep a open thread for every month to make sure the fire on monthly contribution keeps burning. We dont want it to subside until we reach our goal.

Current Status: H1 (visa stamp expires Sept 2011)

Current: Company A (Has filed for h1 extention on May 1 under normal processing)
Future: Company B (Has filed for Transfer under Premium Processing as of May 6)
Currently employed with A. Company B lawyer has filed a transfer on May 6 Premium Process.(I believe current status is LCA is under process).
I plan to resign on May 21 with A and travel abroad to Dubai On May 22. Will be back on June3 to usa

If you travel while an application to extend/transfer is in progress, the application is considered abandoned which in many instances results getting approval with out an I-94 at the bottom.
As far as i know, a pending application can not be used to reenter. You must have valid visa stamp in your PP for reentry unless a visa waiver or AP can be used. You can enter with Comp A's visa stamp and approved transfer copy from Company B as long as the visa is not expired.
Please check with an experienced immigration lawyer before travelling.

I have used remit2india and they do not give good rate.. They will offer you free calling card, etc.. but their rate sucks. I have used Citi also and they are same.. I actually found my bank to give best rate via wire transfer.
Wellsfargo has some understanding with ICICI and they only charge $5 per wire transfer if you are sending the money to an ICICI account in India. Otherwise they charge $20-$25 but give best rate..

Why did you use AP if you had a valid H1-b?
Because I did not have H1 Visa...just H1 document. I went on a very short trip to India and I didn't want to make trips to Chennai consulate and who knows if I got stuck with some kind of verifications...or other delays...Thats why I opted for AP.

Once you are 183 days on H1b (significant presence test), you become resident alien for federal tax purposes and file 1040 just like any other resident. From my experience in real estate, I am yet to encounter an IRS form that says H1b's shall be taxed 10% more. Can you request the IRS publication number from the source? I am curious.

Currently my labor and 1-140 has been approved. But i havent been able to apply for I-485 due to retrogression. Hence if i change my job now and re-apply for labor will i continue to get extentions?
Also can anyone advice me that for a PERM application the pre-application i.e advertisements and stuff takes how long before i can actually apply for the labor. Also in Perm How long does one have to do the pre-application (advertisments etc)?

To add my wife I'll need to pay 500+ per month which is pretty expensive. That's why I was looking for outside options. I found some on ehealthinsurance but none of them cover pregnancy.
Are you expecting a good insurance for less than that.
I believe if you a buy a insurance , which covers pre existing conditions from outside that may be much more than 500 usd a month.
Would recommend you to get your wife added in your company insurace..

Thank you for all your support. Quick update. Our video now has 1439 viewings, 132 ratings and 38 comments (as at 4:15pm EDT 7/9). This has resulted in us having the #32 top rated video of the week in News and Politics. Your support has been wonderful and thank you for your positive comments.
We have looked at a large number of the other videos in the competition and we certainly have a much higher rating and viewings than any of the videos other than the ones posted in the first week of the competition. Sadly we dont want to monitor them as every time we check their score it rates as another viewing for them :p
We remain hopeful that our moderate position on a difficult topic may give us an edge but who knows. My son is dying to pose a supplementary to the video question about the byzantine process we all have to endure.
Will keep you updated.

After seeing so much activism on Dream Act in the news, I think Dream Act deserves to be passed. Recapture does not. We are responsible for it for not doing anything if Dream Act passes. Just Google Dream Act and you will see so much work done on this. Compare it to Recapture bill. Reporters will also write about issues where they see lot of activity. We are simply not doing enough.

Received the following RFE: a photocopy of birth certificate issued by local registrar if person was born in a city or a photocopy of birth certificate issued by additional district's registrar's office if person was born in village: If person has completed 10th grade or above, please also submit a photocopy of their education board certificate.
Docs I have: an attested true copy (notarized) of my birth certificate in Hindi. Not very legible. Has a first name for me which is not name I go by. I think it was used to just complete birth certificate as actual name was set based on time/date of birth etc. Affadavits from parents and an uncle stating my parents name and DOB. I also have another version of these where they state that I was known by a nickname (as on my birth certificate) as a child. I also have a notarized letter from Indian consulate stating that according to my passports, I was born to x and y parents with a DOB of such and such. As for education certificates, I completed 10th in india, then transfered to USA and had to redo it here (yes i've been in usa for ages). I don't have any paperwork related to my 10th in India. i do have letters of transfer from completeing 8th grade in a different country to be used in India which states parents name and DOB.
I don't remember what was submitted during July 07 fiasco regarding this. I think unfortunately my birth certificate was submitted with letters from consulate and uncle (one where it states i was known by a different nickname). Unfortunately my lawyer doesn't seem to have checked everything well before submitting.
What should I do now? Please advise what i can submit to correct this?
*Since it seems BC was submitted, getting a letter to it's nonavailability is out of question (and very hard to get since I have a BC). so should i get whatever translation I can of the letter (very illegible) and have that letter be notarized?
*Once i get that translation, it will show BC has different name? Should i then submit affadavits from parents regarding name, DOB, place of birth, with note that as a child I was known by nickname that is on my BC? The letters I have are from 2007, can I continue to use these affadavits? I can re-add consulate's letter that according to passports, my parents are such and such etc.
*As for education certificate? Should I get transcript from H.S. showing I did my 10th here and submit the letter of transfer after my 8th grade that shows info on my parents and DOB. or does it have to be something after 10th and higher? In USA docs usually don't state parent information.
Please help as I'm very stressed about this....

I and My wife were applied 485 in July 2007. We have received receipt numbers, EAD's and Advance Paroles. In online my wife 485 status showing as approved, but we did not receive any letters from USCIS. When we called USCIS about this, some of the IO officers are saying they don't know why the Card production ordered was not happened and they will send a request to supervisor. But some of the IO officers are saying instead of approving 131,they approved 485 and it is a mistake. Even though if they are saying mistake, they are not changing the online message or when we call them getting different messages from USCIS until today...Gurus please advise what we need to do.

I sent an email to chennai consulate requesting emergency appointment and they gave me the earliest available date. I had to provide my passport number and return travel date.
Went to HDFC bank and got the DD for visa fees and VFS fees and went to consulate at the specified time. Visa interview went fine and the officer said I could collect my passport at the VFS counter if I need it immediately.
I went to the chennai VFS counter for 2 days in a row to collect my passport and they said they did not recieve it yet. The third day I called and was told that passport can be picked up. But when my uncle went to pick it up they said it was not there.
I called the courier company Bluedart and gave them my passport number and they said it is in transit and I recieved it.
So the visa interview went fine but there were some unexpected delays in recieving the passport. Finally I got it on the day of my travel and came back to US finally.
Just wanted to update all about my experience and thank you for all your help.
